- MAJOR CHANGE ! The Credit Text Pop-Up, Page 16
- ----------------------------------------------
-
- The Credit Text Pop-up was simply too long. Besides, we added
- features not described in the regular manual, which made it
- longer yet. So it has been split into TWO pop-ups. One pop-up
- appears when you click the right button anywhere on the big fat
- proportional gadget in the middle of the screen. The second pop-up
- appears if you click anywhere else on the screen. Here is a
- description of added features:
-
- 1. Proportional Gadget Pop-Up:
- --------------------------
-
- Generate Slide:
-
- This selection will take the current text display and generate a
- horizontal text animation. Left-adjusted text will move in from the
- left, and back out. Right-adjusted text will move in from the right,
- then back out. Lines of centered text will alternately move left and
- right, ie, every second line will move left, the lines in between
- will move right.
- The resulting ANIM will always contain 80 frames. The ANIM will hold
- for approximately 10 frames when the text reaches the center of the
- display.
-
- To test this, use the "Text.Example" file provided on the distribution
- disk, with one of the Blank Screen backdrops. Alternate lines
- left adjusted, centered, and right adjusted, then select GenerateSlide,
- and watch what happens!
-
- SetDrops:
-
- This is a "toggle", which allows you to choose whether the text display
- will be one-color, or have automatic drop-shadows. If it is one-color,
- then it is color 2 of the four-color text colors selections which is used.
- This toggle is available only on a global basis (ie, either all lines
- have it or they don't). If it is desired for single lines, the effect
- can be achieved by selecting the background color for colors 1,3, and 4
- in the text colors selections.
-
- TextDrawMode:
-
- This gives you four modes with which to experiment. Only InverseVid
- seems to be practical in the context of this program - this option
- will make the text the background color, and the area surounding the
- text will take on the four colors assigned to the text. The text then
- appears to be carved out of a three-dimensional plate.
-
- Feel free to experiment with the other options.
-
- TextFile
-
- This option allows you to interactively change the text file being used
- in the display.
-
-
- 2. Rest of Screen Pop-Up
- ---------------------
-
- LineDrawMode:
-
- This gives you four modes with which to experiment on a line-by-line
- basis. See TextDrawMode above.

- SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN BOOTABLE DISK/HARD DRIVE INSTALL PROCEDURES
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The description on page 8 no longer holds. It is tricky to produce
- procedures which handle all situations. We are still trying to
- improve this area.
-
- For this product, we have created procedures which simply necessitate
- dragging the installation icons to the appropriate locations, then
- double-clicking on the icons.
-
- Bootable Disk Installation:
-
- Create a formatted blank disk named Bootable_CreditText, and "install"
- it (ie, if the disk is in drive df0:, type "install df0:" after
- formatting the disk).
-
- With the Credit Text distribution disk in one drive, open the window for the
- blank formatted disk named Bootable_CreditText, then drag the icon named
- DragToFrmttdDsk into the blank disk window, then double-click. The
- procedure should then copy all relevant files from the distribution
- disk and your standard Wirkbench disk to the bootable disk.
-
- Hard Drive Installation:
-
- In response to some complaints about the DigiMate procedure, it
- is now possible to drag the hard drive installation icon to ANY
- drawer on your hard drive. It is recommended, of course, that this
- drawer be one called TASS. For users who already have TASS on your
- hard drive, this is no problem, since old TASS files will be replaced
- by new files, and any necessary new files will be added to your hard
- drive. Our goal is to keep TASS upwardly compatible, so this should
- have no effect on previous commercial TASS releases.
-
- NOTE: None of the tutorial files will be copied. It is expected that
- all this is done AFTER you have completed the tutorials. Of course,
- you could always copy the tutorial files in the main drawer of the
- Credit Text disk, if you wish.
-
-
- ADDED FEATURE: "ASSIGN" directly from the Credit Text screen:
-
- NOTE: THIS FEATURE REQUIRES AREXX TO BE ACCESSIBLE
-
- Font users often have different font sets in different locations,
- and use the "assign" command to go from one set to the other. As
- a convenience, two gadgets have been added to the interface screen.
- The "Assign" gadget allows you to examine the current set of
- system asignments. the "->Change" gadget allows you to add to
- the system assignments. For instance, if you have a font set
- in dh0:fonts, and your current font assignment is elsewhere (check
- using the "Assign" gadget - it is a TASS Text Scroll Gadget, so
- out-of-view items can be brought into the display as described
- in the manual) then click on "->Change". A "From" requester
- appears, at which point you would type in "fonts:". Then, a
- "To" requester appears, at which point you would type in
- "dh0:fonts". Check the "Assign" list again, and the change should
- appear.
-
-
- SHOWANIM INCLUDED
-
- NOTE: THIS FEATURE REQUIRES AREXX TO BE ACCESSIBLE
-
- The manual says that ShowANIM from Sparta is not included. However,
- some of our DigiMate users had some problems using very early
- versions of ShowANIM, so to alleviate the version problem, we
- have included the version we use.
-
- Although the interface we have constructed for ShowANIM requires
- AREXX, of course ShowANIM itself certainly does NOT require ARexx,
- so you can always use it from a command line.
-
-
-
-
- CHANGE IN "TEXT OVER AN ANIMATION", PAGE 35:
-
- The example has been changed. The ANIM included here is TunnelANIM,
- and the text file to use is TunnelANIM.Text.
-
- NOTE: This exercise will require between 2 and 3.5 MegaBytes! It is
- recommended that you save it to your hard drive as it generates,
- then delete it after playing it. If this is too large for you,
- create a text file with 3 or 4 lines, and a simple short lo-res
- ANIM as a test case.
-
- Here is a suggested way to test this out:
-
- Load Credit Text. Load TunnelANIM.Text into the Text Window, and
- TunnelANIM into the Background Window. Click on CTXT.
-
- From the pop-up, select 4 lines per frame (higher, if you want a
- smaller ANIM) and 18 lines per page.
- Set the left edge to 0, and use Topaz 8 font. From Text Colors,
- use color 0 (black) for colors 1,3, and 4, and a bright red for
- color 2. then select GenerateANIM.
-
-
-
-
- ANIM Cut-And-Paste
- ------------------
-
-
- The description on page 39 refers to the Append function in the
- Backgrounds pop-up. This has been removed from the pop-up and
- placed on a gadget directly on the front screen. This change
- has the major advantage of now making it possible to select ALL
- your files, and multiple copies of ONE file, in one move.
- The beginning of the ANIM still requires NewANIM from the
- pop-up as described. It is NOT NECESSARY to "Load" files
- into the Backgrounds Window before appending them - they
- can be all appended directly from the Append gadget.
-
-
-
-
- USING AREXX WITH CREDIT TEXT
- ----------------------------
-
-
- There are major changes from the description on page 41 in the
- manual:
-
- In order to use ARexx with this release of Credit Text, you must
- of course first install ARexx on your system. Then, Credit Text
- must be running, and you must be in the screen accessed by
- clicking on the CTXT gadget. Then, use left Amiga M to get to
- the Workbench and CLI, from where the REXX macro can be run.
-
-
- This implementation is still far from perfect. We are working
- on it, and it will become far better with time!
-
-
- There are now FOUR example ARexx programs which can be used in
- conjunction with Credit Text. These examples reside in the drawer
- TASS/Macros/Credits. Here is a summary and brief description:
-
- 1. LeftRight.REXX
-
- Puts alternate lines of a text file on the left and right of the
- display (ie, left-adjusted and right-adjusted).
-
- 2. LeftToRight.REXX
-
- Puts lines alternately left-center-right.
-
- 3. ShowWholeText.REXX
-
- Will attempt to put ALL lines of the text file within a single
- display screen.
-
- 4. Toy.REXX
-
- The only example which will go through to the final step of actually
- generating the ANIM.
-
- All the lines of text will initially be piled on top of each other, then
- they will gradually separate by "fanning out" from the top.
-
- Make sure the first line of text is positioned at the top of the screen
- prior to using this macro.
-
-
-
-
- To run any of the four examples above, make sure Credit Text is running
- and CTXT has been used to get into the Credits screen. Pop into the
- Workbench, use the CLI to get to the TASS/Macros/Credits drawer, then
- type "rx LeftRight", for instance. Pop back to the Credits screen,
- and you can observe the macro acting.
-
-
- A Final Note:
-
- If you have ARexx, replace the file StartUpTass in the TASS drawer of
- your Credit Text distribution disk with the file StartUpTass.IfYouHaveARexx
- in the same drawer. It has extra lines to take care of the ARexx
- installation.
-
-
- Extra Background Screens
- ------------------------
-
- In addition to the screens mentioned in the manual, there are several
- more blank background screens in the main drawer of the distribution disk.
- These are:
-
- 1. Credits.ehb - A lo-res extra-half-brite blank screen. The extra colors
- gives a lot more variety to a text display. However, keep in mind that
- it may cause a speed and storage problem.
-
- 2. Credits.ehb.lace - An interlace version of #1.
-
- 3. Credits.hires - A hi-res version of #1.
-
-
- Final Notes:
- -----------
-
- This version does not contain the subtitling option. The interface for
- this option is causing some debate. We are working on it.
-
- A Plea to Our Users: What further do you want to see in a text scrolling
- program? We are not limited in what we can provide - it is only up to
- you to ask. Please let us know.
